William E. "Bill" Rivers, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Atkinson on Monday, June 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carol E. (Cunningham) Rivers, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.

He was born in Haverhill, MA on February 15, 1935, and was the son of the late Harland E. and Ethel G. (Smith) Rivers.

Bill was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School, class of 1955. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Korean war. Bill was a skilled carpenter by trade, and briefly worked in construction. He was employed at Lucent Technologies in North Andover for 38 years until his retirement in 1994. Bill is a former member of the Hampstead, NH fire and police departments. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W Post no. 8546, Salem, NH, and the Haverhill Amvets post no. 147.

Besides his wife Carol, he is survived by his daughter Cheryl Ann Rivers, of East Hampstead, his niece Valerie Hill and her husband Carl of Whitefield, NH, his cousin Dan Mariseau and his wife Cheryl of Wolfeboro, NH.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 4-7pm at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 11am. Interment will follow in Walnut Cemetery, Haverhill, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Atkinson Elder Services Transportation Fund, 4 Main St., Atkinson, NH 03811.
