Plaistow, NH: William E. Goodwin, 62, of Plaistow, died December 28, 2019 at his home, following a series of long illnesses.
Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, son of the late William A. and Helen (Taylor) Goodwin, he was raised and educated in Groveland before moving with his family to Patchogue, Long Island, NY, where he attended the local high school and was a member of the baseball team.
Bill entered the U.S. Army in 1975 and served honorably as a Specialist 4 until 1978, and then re-enlisted in 1981 and served until his honorable discharge in 1985. A member of the U.S. Army Boxing Team during his time of service, he was also an expert marksman and was a recipient of the Army Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked for several years as an electrician for the Electric Boat Company of Groton, CT, before returning to the area and worked for several local electrical contractors. Before illness forced his early retirement, he was employed at Home Depot and was highly respected for his vast knowledge in the electrical field.
Bill was an avid and accomplished athlete and enjoyed playing golf, softball, basketball and darts.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Donald Wise of Plaistow, two nieces, Keri Houle, Cindy Burke, a nephew, Donny Wise, eight great-nieces and great-nephews, and his longtime special caring and supportive friends, Richard and Becky Dole of West Newbury, MA and Bill and Dolli Duquette of Plaistow, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Bill on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at American Legion Post 4. 1314 Main St., Haverhill.
