William R.
Connell
July 28, 1930 – August 18, 2018
Atkinson, NH: William R. Connell, 88, a resident of Atkinson for the past sixty years, died Saturday evening, August 18, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Concord, MA, son of the late William E. and Sally (Todd) Connell, he was raised and educated in Manchester, NH and North Andover, MA, graduating from Johnson High School with the Class of 1949. He later earned his degree in Business Management from Northeastern University.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Connell served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Yeoman and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from Kingston-Warren Co. where he had been employed as a computer programmer and had previously worked at USM Bailey's,, Watt's Regulator and Converse Rubber.
A fan of all Boston sports teams but especially the New England Patriots and The Boston Red Sox, he was very knowledgeable when it came to sports trivia. He enjoyed golfing in several local leagues, bowling, and playing Co-ed Softball in Exeter, Salem and Haverhill leagues. He gave back to his community as a Timberlane Girl's Softball coach for twenty-two years.
Predeceased by his wife Irene (Cheney) Connell in 1996 and his daughter Nancy Connell in 2008, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a son, William R. Connell, Jr. of Atkinson, three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Thomas Ingham of Newton, Barbara and Richard Childs of Kingston and Wendy and David Lewis of Atkinson, a brother Hiram T. Connell of Somersworth, nine grandchildren, Amy Marcotte, Thomas W. Ingham, Matthew S. Ingham, Rebecca I. Del'Eltoile, Justin N. Childs, Joshua R. Childs, Alyssa M. Deans, Christopher D. Lewis and William D. Connell, nine Great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors in Atkinson Cemetery.
