IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William E.
Carrow
January 13, 1941 – April 21, 2024
William E Carrow, Born January 13, 1941 in New Hampshire, passed on April 21 in New Bedford, MA.
Bill, as he was known by all, was a great friend to those who knew him. He was a very humble man and did not like to be in the limelight. After all the years of giving of himself unconditionally, touching so many lives, it is appropriate that we now shine some of that light on him. Bill was a brilliant math teacher, but he was always so much more too – a counsellor, a confidant, friend and companion to many, all over the world, which he so loved to travel.
He gave freely of his time tutoring young adults. To this day they still recall how Bill changed their lives and helped them achieve their goals and live their dreams. As a teacher and role model he was persistent, dedicated, and consistent. Many years after he retired, he was still getting emails, cards and letters from those whose lives he touched. Later in his teaching career Bill decided to reach across the Atlantic and started teaching at the American Community Schools in Athens, Greece and later in the American International School in Johannesburg, South Africa, always leaving behind a place that was made better by his presence.
He is survived by his sister and an extensive family, including many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. After Bill retired from teaching, and his health began to decline, his family and circle of friends became smaller and more intimate. He never burdened others by talking of his poor health; his focus was, rather, on them. He leaves behind his lifelong devoted friend and companion with whom he lived for many years and their beloved puppy Gustav – who greatly enriched the final chapter of Bill's life.
Bill would like best to be remembered as someone who helped others and made a meaningful contribution to their lives.
Fittingly therefore, if you would like to honor him, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Bill's name.
Funeral service and interment will be held privately.
