"Bill" Steinhoff
November 28, 1953 – January 21, 2017
William D. "Bill" Steinhoff, 63, a resident of Newton since 1974, died Saturday evening, January 21, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Woburn, MA, son of Margaret (Anstey) Steinhoff and the late Duaine Steinhoff, he was raised and educated in Sandown NH. He was a member of the Timberlane Regional High School Class of 1971, where he lettered in Field and Track, Cross Country and Gymnastics. He was named to the Cross Country Hall of Fame in 1969 in recognition of the several school records that he set during the season.
He attended the New Hampshire Vocational and Technical College and received his B.S.in Electrical Engineering Technology Summa Cum Laude from U-Mass Lowell in 1986.
Bill was employed as a Principal Electrical Engineer at BAE of Nashua and formerly worked at DRS Technology of Merrimack and at AGFA and Compugraphics of Wilmington.
A huge Beatles fan and NASCAR enthusiast, Bill also was a Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, and also enjoyed attending concerts, playing guitar, skiing, camping, brewing his own beer, gardening, vacationing with family, hunting and snowmobiling as a member of Exeter Snowhounds.
A longtime member of Saint Christopher's Episcopal Church of Hampstead, Bill volunteered countless hours as a Newton Little League coach and enjoyed hosting cookouts for his family and many friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Leslie A. (Jollimore) Steinhoff, daughter and son-in-law, Sharon M. and Sean Dougherty of Newton, sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis W. and Sarah Steinhoff of Derry, and Ryan J. and Jessica Steinhoff of Raymond, his mother, Margaret "Peggy" (Anstey) Steinhoff of Raymond, a sister Tina Witcraft of Raymond, and two brothers, Duaine "Gerry" Steinhoff and Mark E. Steinhoff , both of Sandown, also three grandchildren, Mollie Steinhoff, Evan Dougherty, and Abigail Dougherty, two step grandchildren, Noah and Ethan Santiago, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill's Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. A Funeral Eucharist will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Saint Christopher's Church, 187 East Road, Hampstead, NH, followed by burial in Willow Grove Cemetery, Newton Junction, NH. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Christopher's Parish.
