Wilbur J. Poole, 90, and a resident of Nashua since 2015, passed away at his home in Nashua, NH on December 21, 2018.
Mr. Poole was born in Swampscott, Massachusetts on December 23, 1928, son of the late Arthur L. and Helen L. (Robbins) Poole. He was educated in the Lynn, Massachusetts Public School system and served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1946 until 1949. While a resident of Rowley, Massachusetts, he met his wife Dorothy (Noyes) Poole, and together they enjoyed sixty-six years of marriage until her death in 2017.
In 1957 he began employment with the Central Intelligence Agency. He served in many areas and lived for sixteen years in several foreign countries including: Taiwan, Nigeria, Belgian Congo (Katanga), Laos, Iran, Cyprus, Thailand, Australia and in the Virginia and Washington, DC area, retiring in December of 1979
During his career, he received the Agency's Certificate of Merit with Distinctions for outstanding performance in the Congo. He also received the Certificate of Exceptional Service for performance under conditions of Hazzard and Hardship.
Retirement years were spent in Atkinson, NH, before moving to the Hunt Community in Nashua, NH. He spent many years boating in the Great Bay area and was an associate member of Great Cove Boat Club, Eliot, ME. He was also a life member of Saint John's Masonic Lodge of Newburyport and a founding member of the Lang Zang Lodge of Vientiane, Laos.
He is survived by a sister, Arlene L. (Poole) Stacy and many nieces and nephews, Richard and Ellen Knowles, Seabrook, NH, Felicia Knowles, Seabrook, NH, Jody Ford, Dade City, FL, Gary Stacy, Naples, FL and Janet Stickney, LeRoy, NY. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur L. Poole, Jr., and two half-sisters, Virginia Fader and Doris Poole.
Relatives and friends may attend Mr. Poole's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 5 to 7 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11 am in the funeral home followed by burial with military honors in Thomas Parker Cemetery, Newbury, MA.
