Obituary

Atkinson, NH: Warner Arthur Reed, died peacefully Sunday June 15th, 2025, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Warner, the beloved husband of Shirley (Cone) Reed, was born November 6, 1935 in Houlton, Maine, the son of Arthur and Madeline (Boles) Reed. His family moved to Connecticut, where he grew up, returning to the family dairy farm in Cary, Maine for the beginning of his high school freshman year at Ricker Classical Institute, where he graduated with the class of 1953.  He helped his father with the farm and hauling pulp. He enjoyed fishing with his dad on the local lakes.

He met Shirley Cone, a Hodgdon, Maine gal and the love of his life, and they were married September 4th,1955.

In 1961 they began their college educations while raising 3 sons.  Shirley graduated from Ricker College, class of 1964. She taught 4th - 8th grades in a one room schoolhouse, while Warner finished his studies in accounting and computer programming at the University of Maine, Orono, graduating in 1966. They moved their family to Summit, NJ where Warner began his career working for Western Electric.

Warner found time to pursue his passions, ham radio (call sign WA2KOL), star gazing, family photography and 8mm home movies, serving as Boy Scout leader for his sons and Indian Princess leader for his daughters.

Warner's career relocated him to southern New Hampshire in 1982 where he retired from AT&T in 1996.

He was a long-time member of the Atkinson Congregational Church where he also served as trustee and Deacon.

He had a voracious appetite for reading; his favorite chair was surrounded by stacks of books.

He loved spending time with extended family and friends at their family lake house on Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, NH.

Warner was always a helping hand for anyone who needed home remodeling help.  He was very moral, strong willed and sharp as a tack until the end.

Warner is predeceased by his parents and his sister Leota Kilburn and her husband Alan, and brother-in-law Alan Reed-Erickson.  He is survived by his beloved wife Shirley, and children: Bruce Reed of West Newfields, ME, Warner Jr and partner Julia Matchett of Stratham, NH, Craig Reed of Atkinson, Madelynn Ouellette and husband Scott of Kingston, NH, and Shirley Ann Reed and partner Brian Beakey of Portsmouth, NH, beloved grandchildren: Amy Matchett, Ian Matchett and wife Laurie Beth, Alexander Reed and partner Rachel, Kyle Reed, Ashleigh Monahan and husband Patrick, Abbigail Wayda and husband Ethan, Charlotte Ouellette and partner Noah Thomas, Evelynn  Ouellette and Reed Ouellette, great grandchild Kolbi Lynn Wolford, and his sister Sharon Reed and husband Mike of Rochester, NH and many nieces and nephews.   And not to be forgotten, his much loved King Charles Cavaliers: Ozzie and Harriet.
