Soriano
July 9, 1948 – March 10, 2021
Plaistow - Walter A. Soriano, 72, of Plaistow, a former resident of Methuen, and a retired Lawrence Police Department Lieutenant, died March 10, 2021, at Lawrence General Hospital.
Born in Lima, Peru, son of the late Angelo and Catalina (Bermejo) Soriano, he came to the United States at the age of 12 and settled with his family in the Boston area. He attended local schools and graduated from Dorchester High School. Walter served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and later received his associate degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Essex Community College.
Lt. Soriano was the first police officer of Hispanic origin to be hired by the City of Lawrence and served the community for 34 years before his retirement from the force. He later was employed as a deputy assistant to the U.S. Marshall's office and was stationed at the Joseph A. Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston.
Devoted to his wife, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his golden retriever "Dustin," he enjoyed the New England Patriots, traveling, and the warm weather of Naples, Florida, where he had a second home for several years.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 12 years, Mary Rose (Scionti) Soriano; his son, Walter A. Soriano II and his wife Meg of Dracut, Mass.; two daughters, Stephanie Soriano of Newton, Mass., and Stacey Marcotte and her husband Paul of Atkinson; nine grandchildren, Janel, Alex, Christian, Amaris, Lily, Jonathan, Kingston, Jacob and Sophia; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH, under the State of New Hampshire guidelines for social distancing and the wearing of masks. A private family funeral service with Lawrence Police Department honors will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home and followed by burial with military honors in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, Mass.
