Danville: Walter A. Knowlton, 82, died suddenly on June 16, 2017 at Exeter Hospital, following a brief illness. A former resident of Hampstead for thirty-two years, Mr. Knowlton moved to Danville in 1995.
Born, raised and educated in Wakefield, MA, son of the late Allan F. and Margaret (Libby) Knowlton, he graduated from Wakefield High School with the Class of 1952 and was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church where he served as an acolyte. He later served in the Army National Guard.
Employed by New England Telephone for thirty-one years, he worked as a switch operator in several central offices of the North Shore. Following his retirement, he worked with his wife in their antiquing business and was associated with Red Bell Antiques of Kingston and The Commons in Plaistow.
A devoted dog owner, he enjoyed traveling and cruises, and music.
Predeceased in 2014 by his wife of sixty-years, Carleen A. (Rhoadhouse) Knowlton, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Michael LeClair of Hampstead, his son, Jeffrey A. Knowlton of Windham, a brother and sister-in-law Edward P. and Linda Knowlton of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. His funeral service will follow at 1:30 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Salem Animal Rescue League, 4 SARL Drive, Salem, NH.
