Hampstead, NH: Virginia (Tuttle) Murphy, 93, formerly of Emerson Village, Hampstead, and a former resident of Atkinson, NH, died on June 5, 2018 at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont, NH.
Born in Somerville, MA, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Louise (Capron) Tuttle, she graduated from Waltham High School, Class of 1942 and Waltham Hospital of Nursing, Class of 1946, while serving in the U. S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Waltham Hospital, the Psychiatric Unit at Colorado University and Emerson Hospital. She was a resident of Atkinson, NH for twenty years before moving to Hampstead where she worked for Dr. Raymond Moore and Dr. William Hart for twenty five years and retired in 1990 from Hampstead Hospital. She was also the Office Manager of the Union Office while serving as Treasurer of both local and Chapter of Union S.E.I.U., Chapter 603.
Mrs. Murphy was a devout member of the Atkinson Congregational Church where she was the first female deacon of the church. She served many years on various committees in the church and was a member of the church choir and volunteer driver for the Derry Caregivers. She was a member of the American Red Cross and a volunteer for the Lions Club. Among her interests, she enjoyed reading and traveling.
Her survivors include one son, John J. "Jack" Murphy, Jr. and his wife, Kim of Hampton, NH; a daughter, Carol Cachion and her husband, William, formerly of Sandown, NH; a brother, Roger Tuttle of West Yarmouth, MA; four grandchildren, Jason Riley of Dover, NH, Mindy Riley of W. Palm Beach, FL, Melissa Murphy of NH and Sean Murphy of Portsmouth, NH and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Leland Tuttle.
There will be no Calling Hours. A Funeral Service will be held at the Atkinson Congregational Church, 101 Main St., Atkinson, NH on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the music program at the Atkinson Congregational Church or to a battered women's shelter, Haven, 20 International Drive, Suite 300, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH.
