Atkinson, NH:Virginia A. (Smith) Alexander, 78, of Atkinson, NH and formerly of Columbus, OH, Georgetown, MA and Westford, MA, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, MA.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of Wallace and Grace (Hill) Smith, she attended high school in Blairsville, PA, and studied voice at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.She was also trained by May Marshall of the Metropolitan Opera.
For the past several years,Mrs. Alexander ran a booth at the Sunday Flea Market in Hollis, NH.She was a former member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Chorus and an eight year member of the Andover Choral Society.As a member of a local bird club, she enjoyed bird watching.She also enjoyed, trips to the mountains, hiking and skiing and was devoted to her pet dogs.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, (James) Glenn Alexander of Atkinson and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., (Route 121A) Plaistow, NH.Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at 10:00 am at the funeral home.Burial will follow in the Atkinson Cemetery, Atkinson, NH.
