Vernon C. MacNeill, Jr., 94, of Atkinson, NH, died peacefully on Wednesday June 25, at home surrounded by close family members.

Born on December 23, 1930 in Boston, MA to Vernon C. and Doris E. (Lindsay) MacNeill, he was raised in Beverly, MA and Danbury, NH. He attended Andover High School in Andover, NH, to which he rode a passenger train every school day.

During the Korean War Vern served in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands as a radio operator on planes searching for Japanese aircraft, and in Hawaii with the 76th Air Rescue Squadron. He earned an associate's degree from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA, and was employed for 35 years as an electronics technician for Bell Labs in North Andover, MA.

Vern was a resident of Atkinson since 1958. He was a member of the Atkinson Fire Department in his early years in town and a member of the Atkinson Congregational Church. As a dedicated member of the Plaistow (NH) Lion's Club for more than 60 years he became a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2011.

Vern enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and harmonica, working with his computers, photography and videography, and visiting with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid fly fisherman and fly-tyer, deer hunter, canoeist, painter, skier, flea marketer, ham radio operator, maple syrup maker, and woodworker.

Survived by his wife of 68 years, Marion (Stone) MacNeill, he will be long missed and lovingly remembered by Marion and their four children: Laurie Schneider and her husband Dennis of Santee, CA, Susan Shea and her husband Richard of Portsmouth, NH, Jonathan of Atkinson, NH and Douglas of Atkinson, NH, as well as 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 4pm-7pm at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at the Atkinson Congregational Church in Atkinson, NH. Interment will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.
