Obituary

Plaistow, NH:  Verna M. Carbone, 102, a resident of Plaistow since 1987 and holder of the Boston Post Cane as the town's oldest resident, died peacefully at her home on Saturday evening, January 30, 2021.

Born in Bradford, Massachusetts, daughter of the late John and Carrie (Oneto) Carbone, she was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1936. She received her Bachelor's Degree in 1940 from Boston University's College of Arts and Letters, and later her Master's Degree from the School of Education in 1961. She was a lifelong member of Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society as well as Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the national chapter Delta Pi Epsilon.

Miss Carbone was a Business Education teacher for a total of forty-five years, first at Winchendon High School for twenty-years and later for twenty-five years at Gloucester High School. She formerly lived in Winchendon and later Rockport, MA until her retirement in 1986.

As a lifelong member of Sacred Hearts Parish of Bradford, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, and as a longtime member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish at Holy Angels Church in Plaistow, she was active as a member and Past-President of the The Ladies' Guild.

Long after her retirement, Miss Carbone was still active in education as a volunteer teacher and tutor for the Haverhill Elementary Schools reading program and the Haverhill Adult Literacy Program.

She was a member of the Massachusetts Business Education Association, The New England Business Education Association, The Women's City Club of Haverhill and the Quota Club of Haverhill.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two nephews, Gerald Carbone and his wife Joanne of Kingston and Raymond Carbone, Jr. and his wife Rose of Steuben, Maine, and several great and great-grand nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother Richard Carbone and a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Dena Carbone.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson Depot Road, Plaistow.
