Haverhill: Thomas W. Kelly, 81, of Haverhill, died December 18, 2018 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, son of the late Walter and Mary (Foley) Kelly, he was a member of the Haverhill Trade School Class of 1955. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served as an Airman Third Class in the 654th Radar Squadron and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Mr. Kelly was employed as a truck driver for UPS and later was a self-employed truck driver and operator of T. Kelly Trucking. For twenty years he was employed by the Department of the Navy as a Transportation Supervisor at Trident Refit Facilities at Submarine Bases in Brunswick, Maine, Portsmouth, NH and finally retired in 2001 from the King's Bay Naval Submarine Base at St. Mary's, Georgia.
A resident of St. Mary's for twenty six years he returned to the area and settled in Atkinson, NH in 2016, until recently moving to Haverhill. A passionate golfer, Mr. Kelly spent his retirement years enjoying golf and working as a ranger at several golf courses in Georgia, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He was also a fan of NASCAR, The New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He was a member of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion, Plaistow and the NRA, and also enjoyed motorcycling, snowmobiling and discussing politics.
Predeceased by his first wife Rosalie J. (Libby) Kelly in 2003 he later reconnected with his high school sweetheart Sandra (Leavitt) Ferrick, herself a widow, and they were married in 2008.
In addition to his wife Sandra, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three sons Vance M. Kelly of Haverhill, Patrick T. Kelly and his spouse Joanne Sayers of Plaistow, NH, and Daniel J. Kelly and his wife Sheryl of Plaistow, NH, two daughters, Kristina M. Kelly and her spouse David Hoyt of Plaistow, NH and Colleen S. Kelly of Washington, D.C., a step daughter and her husband, Jeanne and Alfred Zappala of Haverhill, step-sons and their wives Robert E. and Kim Ferrick of Haverhill and Stephen J. and Margo Ferrick of Westford, eight grandchildren, Ashley Hoyt, Paige Martin, Meghan Psaledas, Scott Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Bridget Kelly, Logan Kelly and Austin Kelly, three great-grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and his beloved cat, "Miss Kitty", and several nieces and nephews, and special friends Thelma Lee and Nick Varasso of Georgia. He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice M. Kelly and Constance Harris.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours and Mr. Kelly's Life Celebration on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place in the Spring in Plaistow Cemetery.
