Obituary

Exeter, NH: Thomas L. Goldthwaite, 75, of Exeter and a former  resident of the Rockingham County area, and also formerly of Amesbury, Massachusetts, died Tuesday evening, August 31, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Exeter, son of the late Everard and Janice (Robinson) Goldthwaite, he was raised in Danville, attending local schools and graduating from the former Sanborn Seminary in Kingston.

Thomas worked all of his life in the automotive business with a specialty in building transmissions. He owned and operated his own business, The Transmission Shop, where he repaired transmissions and operated a truck parts store.

Thomas was devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed camping, snowmobiling and boating on Lake Winnipesaukee with them. He and his wife Esther also spent several years living in Vero Beach, Florida until returning to the Southern New Hampshire area in May of 2021.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-six years, Esther T. (Merritt) Goldthwaite, two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia L. and James Kelly of Exeter, and Ann-Marie and Stephen Burnham, of Sandown; a brother Richard Goldthwaite of Danville, five grandchildren, Geoffrey Johnson and his wife Lydia, Thomas Johnson and his wife Allison, James Kelly,Jr.,  Krysten Burnham and her fiancé James Beucler, and Lisa Burnham; three great grandchildren, Logan Johnson, Gavin Johnson and Wesley Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Joyce Spero.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Life Celebration to be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow at 6:30 in the funeral home. The family requests that donations in his name be made to Rockingham County VNA and Hospice or Salvation Army.

By request of the family, masks are required for those who are unvaccinated and are attending the calling hours and service for Thomas.
