Obituary

Newton NH– Theodore A. Pekalsky, 85, passed away Thursday March 14, 2024.

Born July 23, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Theodore and Margaret (Poirier) Pekalsky.

Ted served in the US Air Force, and later attended Northeastern University where he received his bachelor's degree in engineering.  He worked for many years as an electrical engineer at  Western Electric, and it was here that he met his beloved wife, Carolyn, and many lifelong friends.  After retiring from Western Electric, he went on to work at the IRS where his wife also worked.

Ted's true love was spending time with his family such as watching his grandchildren participate in sports, gathering together for a happy hour, traveling together, and cruising around Onway Lake.  He enjoyed gardening and, together with his wife, earned the title of New Hampshire Master Gardener through UNH Extension.  Ted was active his entire life;  he was part of  championship soccer and softball teams, ran countless road races with his family, played tennis with his wife and friends, and in later years, walked nearly every day with his wife through local trails.  Ted held the family record for 4 years as the oldest to climb Mt. Major at the Annual Karcz Family Mountain climb at the age of 80 but was beaten recently by a mere 6 months by his wife!

Members of his family include his wife Carolyn (Karcz) Pekalsky of Newton, NH; his children Christopher Pekalsky and wife Melissa of Raymond, NH; Lynn Pekalsky of Kingston, NH; and Julie Pekalsky of Raymond, NH; his five grandchildren Caleb, Theo, Addison, Stella, and Cars, and his sister Paula DeVries and her husband David of Ballston Spa, NY.  He is also survived by many brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Margaret Lavoie and his nephew Eric Lavoie.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Donations can be made in Ted's name to the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery at https://www.nhvca.org/donate/general-donation.
