Obituary

T. Richard "Dick" Latham passed peacefully away on September 13, 2024. He was the son of the late Thomas Hick Latham and Margaret (Stevens) Latham of Deep River CT. Dick is a native of Deep River and graduate of Deep River High School. He attended UConn, Kansas State and Michigan State colleges, receiving his BS degree from Kansas State. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Dick was proud to be a certified member of SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) and can trace his family tree back to England in the 1500's. A statue posed for by his dad (The Doughboy Statue) honoring the veterans who served in WWI stands in front of the former D.R. High School. While living in Deep River he was a member and officer of the Deep River Fire Department. Dick, Buzz Turner and Dick Morrow founded the Deep River Ambulance Association which today continues to serve the Deep River area with emergency ambulance service. He was also a member of the Association's Board of Directors. Dick was employed as a sales engineer and was transferred as manager of the northern New England area and chose to live in Plaistow, NH in 1961. His primary responsibility was serving military and computer firms in their developmental applications with components. This later included some commercial firms. He and others were involved in forming two manufacturing representative companies and a company which manufactured miniature electrical/electronic connectors. He was an officer and employed by one of the manufacturing representative companies as a sales engineer. Dick enjoyed most outdoor sports including skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member and former Chief of the Plaistow Fire Department. He, Bob Farrar and others formed the Plaistow Rescue Squad which shortly after becoming active became a part of the Plaistow Fire Department. The rescue segment for the fire department plays a major portion of today's call for service. Unknown to Dick, he was nominated for and received the prestigious Goodyear National Award for Water Conservation in Plaistow and was read into the minutes of the U.S Congress in recognition of the honor. Dick served for 25 years under four High Sheriff's as a certified part-time Deputy Sheriff in Rockingham County. He has been what is now known as a "first responder" for more than 47 years. Dick was a member and past Senior Warden of Trinity Masonic Lodge of Connecticut. He was a member of Gideon Lodge in Kingston N.H. and a member of the Orders of Royal Arch Masons and Knights Templar. He served on Several Plaistow Town committees including Budget, Plaistow First, Old Home Day, and Highway Safety. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Dick was truly committed to community service for the wellbeing of all citizens and was honored to have the Plaistow Annual Report dedicated to him in 2007.

Dick was predeceased by his first wife Joanne "Pat" (Persons). He is survived by his present wife, Jean (Goodell) and two sons: Thomas Latham and wife Susan of Sandown and Captain Richard Latham and wife Deborah of Louden, His grandchildren Jennifer and husband Donald (DJ) Robinson of Plaistow, T. Jonathan and wife Guiselle of Fremont, Jason and wife Sierra of Rangeley, ME, Kevin and wife Mariah of FL, Rebecca of Berlin, and Brian of Louden. He also leaves 6 great grandchildren, Reid, Ryland, Catalina, Laila, Makenna and Thomas. He was loved and will be missed by all.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service to be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 11am at the First Baptist Church 122 Main St. Plaistow, NH. Interment will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sentinel 29 Sentinel Lodge Rd. Tuftonboro, NH 03816 or at campsentinel.org
