IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sylvia E.
Markell
November 8, 1936 – March 31, 2022
Atkinson, NH: Sylvia E. (White) Markell, 85, a resident of Atkinson since 1946, died peacefully on March 31, 2022 in Methuen, with family by her side.
Born in Boston and raised and educated primarily in Atkinson, she was the daughter of the late Forrest and Georgia (Gorton) White. She graduated from Haverhill High School with the Class of 1954, and attended the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing.
A licensed real estate agent, Mrs. Markell worked for the Gordon Brown Real Estate office as well as the King Davis Agency. She was a longtime member of the Atkinson Congregational Church, The Friends of the Kimball Library and the Atkinson Garden Club.
An avid reader and an artist working primarily in oils, Mrs. Markell enjoyed Big Band Music as well as the works of classical composers, evenings at the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops, and musical theatre. She also enjoyed attending flower shows and taking part in the Bonnie Belle Road races. Always ready for excursions to anywhere on the North Shore or Ogunquit, Maine, she was happiest treating her grandchildren to Friendly's or MacDonald's. She could be content staying at home taking in a classic movie or traveling with her sisters to visit family in Sarasota, Florida or Sanibel Island.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of thirty-six years, Jay Markell, a daughter Kathleen G. Cartier of Manchester, NH, two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark A. and Tina Kimball of Atkinson and Dean E. and Janet Kimball of Candia, two brothers, Forrest White of Salem, NH, and Paul White of Hampstead, two sisters, Barbara Di Loretto of Melrose, MA and Patricia Collins of Danville, NH, seven grandchildren, Hannah, Liam, Niall, Aidan, Peter, Delaney and Nathan. She was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret and Virginia.
