Obituary

Bradford, MA:  Susan J. (Coombs) Rowinski, 68, of the Bradford section of Haverhill, died peacefully at her home, on March 10, 2021, with her loving family by her side, after a forty-year courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Born in Auburn, ME, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Rolande (Elie) Coombs.  Susan was raised and educated in the Bradford and Haverhill area and attended Haverhill High School, graduating with Distinction with the Class of 1970, and where she played the clarinet in the high school band.  She also attended the University of MA in Amherst, graduating in 1974 with a Degree in Education.   Susan was first employed as a substitute teacher in the Haverhill School System and later for many years as a Retail Manager for Sears & Roebuck Company, Methuen, MA.  She was also co-owner of the Bear's Closet, a childrens' boutique clothing store on Winter Street in Haverhill, from 1980 until 1987.

A member of All Saints Parish and the former St. George's Parish, she was also a member of the Upbeat Connection -- an MS support group. She also received support as well at Nevins Adult Care in Methuen, MA and Sarah's Place in Haverhill.  Despite her illness, Susan enjoyed trips to Disney World, Colorado and California. Before her illness prevented her active lifestyle, she enjoyed camping and hiking and cross country skiing along the east coast from the Outer Banks of North Carolina to Prince Edward Island.  A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she had a well known "sweet tooth"  and inspired others with her enduring positive attitude and was a great fan of musical theatre.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of forty-two years, Thomas J. Rowinski, a son and daughter-in-law, Philip J. and Tracie Rowinski of North Andover, MA and a daughter and son-in-law, Emily C. and Peter White of Plaistow, NH; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Sheila Coombs of Haverhill, MA and a sister, Sandra L. Cormier of Haverhill, MA; two grandchildren, Gabriel R. White and Addison R. White; one aunt and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 15, 2021, at 11 AM in All Saints Parish, Haverhill following the Commonwealth of Massachusetts guidelines for wearing face masks and social distancing, with burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Haverhill.  Arrangements are under the direction of Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill.  Donations in Susan's name may be made to Sarah's Place, 180 Water St., Haverhill, MA 01830.  For directions or to send a message of condolence to the family or share a cherished memory, please visit our website at www.berubecomeau.com .
