IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stanley A.
West
October 14, 1939 – November 9, 2023
Stanley A. West Jr., age 84, of Plaistow, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ursula M. (Lorenz) West with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
Stanley (Lee) and Ursula married in 1965. They met while Stanley was serving in the United States Air Force in Spangdahlem, Germany. When they met Stanley didn't speak a word of German and Ursula didn't speak a word of English. Stanley carried around a German to English dictionary on most of their early dates.
He was born in Woburn, MA on October 14, 1939 and was the son of the late Stanley A. West Sr. and Jeannette (Hoff) West. Stanley joined the Air Force in 1957. He was stationed in Texas as an Aircraft Mechanic. He was also stationed in Korea, Japan, Germany, Las Vegas, etc. He used to say he went around the world 13 times. He retired from the Air Force in 1978, at which point he had worked with computers for eight years. He then went on to work at Raytheon and retired after 30 years. Stan, Ursula and their 3 children were transferred many times in Stan's military career. They lived in Germany, Las Vegas, Germany again, and then New England just in time to enjoy the blizzard of 1978. While living in New England they moved many times. In 1983 they moved to Plaistow, NH, which they called home for more than forty years and at which they have enjoyed a multitude of family gatherings and cookouts around their pool.
Besides his wife Ursula, Stanley is also survived by three children, their spouses, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. They include his son Stanley West III and his wife Melissa of VT, son Frank West and his wife Heidi of WA, and his daughter Sandra Vaas and her husband Jeff of NH. Grandchildren Samantha (West) Tremblay, John West, Benjamin West, Josh Gaudette, Jeremy Gaudette, Amber (West) Hines, and Michael West. Great grandchildren Caralynn Tremblay, Wyser West, and Kenna Hines.
He was predeceased by his father Stanley A. West Sr., his mother Jeannette (Hoff) West, and his brother Ronald P. West.
Stanley will be remembered for his love for his wife and family, and for his wit. He was an amazing man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His funeral service and interment will be held privately.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 19 at 12pm at the Old Meeting House in Hampstead, NH.
