Haverhill, MA: Simon Gonzalez, 89, a resident of Haverhill for over twenty years, died peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the Hannah Duston in Haverhill.

Born in Cuba, he was the son of the late Humberto Gonzalez and Benita (Franque) Gonzalez. Simon came to the United States in 1962 with his family during the time of the Cuban missile crisis.

Here in the United States, Mr. Gonzalez worked as a cook for several health care facilities including Fairlawn Nursing home in Lexington, MA and Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford. He later worked in maintenance at various medical facilities. He was described as someone who was very proud to have made it to America and very proud to be a citizen here.

Simon will be remembered as a kind and gentle man. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking, gardening, deep sea fishing, dining out, trips to Seabrook beach and trips to both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

Simon will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Joanne (Doucette) Gonzalez, a son, Simon Gonzalez and his wife, Colleen of Peabody, MA, a grandson, Simon Gonzalez and twin grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alexander, and many siblings back in Cuba.
