Sandown, NH:  Shoko (Yamada) Rioux, 63, passed away on June 16th, 2025 at Portsmouth NH Regional Hospital. Shoko was born in Kagoshima City, on the southern Island of Kyushu, Japan, and has resided in Sandown, NH since 2014. She was the daughter of the late Atsuo and Michko Yamada.

Before moving to the United States, she worked as a chef at the Yokota NCO Club, Tokyo. Shoko was an accomplished pianist and talented seamstress. She enjoyed gardening and trips to the ocean.

Shoko will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Robert M. Rioux; his daughter, Michelle Varnum, and her husband, Greg, along with their children, Michael and Taylor, of Scituate, MA; as well as by her two brothers, Kenzou Yamada and Yu Yamada, who reside in Japan.

There will be no local services. Her cremated remains will be interred in the family shrine in Kagoshima City, Japan. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home of Plaistow.
