Haverhill, MA: Shirley A. (Comeau) Hardy, 88, of Haverhill, and a former longtime resident of the Bradford section of the city, died peacefully after an extended illness, Monday, May 12, 2025, at Aspen Hill Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Born in Haverhill, she was the daughter of the late Francis "Frank" and Elise (Doucette) Comeau and attended Saint Joseph Grammar School. A member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1953, Mrs. Hardy went on to attend and graduate from Commonwealth Center School of Practical Nursing. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse in local nursing homes including Pentucket Manor, Kenoza Manor and Havolyn Nursing Home. When her children were young, she took time away from nursing and worked in the Haverhill School System. Once her children were grown, she returned to nursing and worked at the Glynn Memorial Nursing Home until her retirement.
Mrs. Hardy was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish of Bradford where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered at several local nursing homes. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, she liked nothing more than spending time with her family. She also enjoyed several trips all over the world with her husband and family.
Predeceased in 2002 by her loving husband of forty-six years, Albert C. Hardy, and her son Gerard M. Hardy, in 2020, she is survived by a son, Albert C. Hardy, Jr. and wife Susan, of Bradford, three daughters, Sharon A. Bailey and her husband James, of Haverhill, Lisa M. Allan of Pittsfield, NH, and Patricia A. Hanides and her husband Steven, of Haverhill; a sister Doris Sulesky of Haverhill, seventeen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law Dorothy Hardy of Concord, NH, and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased in 2019 by her brother-in-law, Kenneth Sulesky.
The family wishes to thank the staff on Wings A & B at Aspen Hill Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center for the wonderful care and support that they provided to Mrs. Hardy during her illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will begin on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Hearts Church, South Main Street, Bradford, MA. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.
