Haverhill, MA: Shirley C. (Cook) Smith, 83, of Haverhill died on June 24, 2014 at Merrimack Valley Hospital following a brief illness.
Born, raised, and educated in Haverhill, daughter of the late Richard Cook and Ceceile (Vigeant) (Cook) Rowell, she graduated from Haverhill High School with the Class of 1948 and went on to attend Fay Secretarial School in Boston.
Mrs. Smith was employed as a secretary for Eastern Canvas which is now known as East Pak for thirty years until her retirement. She also served as a Notary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for twenty-five years.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mrs. Smith was a member of All Saints Parish and enjoyed playing Bingo.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur F. Smith and is survived by her son, Arthur F. Smith, Jr. and his loving companion Mal Anderson of Atkinson, NH, two daughters, Karen Allbach and her husband Ronald of Haverhill, and Nancy Poore of Groveland, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard A. Jr. and Helen Cook and Gary L. and Jean Cook, all of Haverhill, seven grandchildren, Sean Smith, Todd Smith, Justin Poore, Alex Allbach, Ashley Smith, Courtney (Smith) Borden, and Nicole Smith and eleven great-grandchildren, including Brianna Smith, who was cared for by Mrs. Smith and to whom she was extremely devoted, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Jenny-Rebecca Poore.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. Her funeral will held on Saturday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
