Obituary

Sandown – Salvatore L. "Sal" Genualdo, 81, died Thursday October 20, 2022 at his home with his children by his side.

Born April 10, 1941 in East Boston, MA; he was the son of the late Arthur and Rose (Siracusa) Genualdo. Sal spent the first nine years of his life in East Boston before moving to Hilltop Farm in Sandown in 1950.

He grew up on the family's working dairy farm, while also attending Pinkerton Academy, until a fire destroyed the barns in 1958. After the family recovered from the fire, Sal worked in the family restaurant, The Genualdo Spaghetti House, and completed three years at Lowell Technical School. Sal went on to work as a tool and die maker, beginning a 40 year career at the former Western Electric. He remained with the company through multiple ownership changes, retiring as the Toolroom Supervisor for Lucent Technologies in 2000.

Sal met his devoted wife, Sheila, in 1966. They married in 1967, living in Haverhill, MA while Sal began building his own house in Sandown. Sal returned to his hometown in 1974 with his wife and children, moving into his new family home, where he remained until his passing.

Sal truly believed in the value of hard work, often putting in hours of physical labor at home after a full day at his job. His home was truly his castle, and he worked tirelessly to improve it on a daily basis. He enjoyed being a handy man and helping others with his collection of heavy machinery. In his retired years, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, as well as playing the doting grandfather to his four grandchildren. In his final year, Sal returned to his farm-boy origins, hand-raising two goats, Laverne and Shirley.

He will be missed and remembered by his children; Arthur C. Genualdo and wife Cheryl of Meriden, CT; Paul R. Genualdo and wife Kat of Saginaw, TX; and Rosemary A. MacKenzie and husband Jason of Epping, NH; his grandchildren Mason, Ciretta, Giada, and Niko, his siblings Ciro Genualdo, Jeanne Pearson, and Annette Kukene, all of Sandown, NH; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila (Bresnahan) Genualdo. Family and friends may visit Wednesday October 26, 2022 from 4 PM – 6 PM at the Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH. A funeral service will follow at 6:15 PM in the funeral home.
