Obituary

Ross Allen Huntington, 73, a resident of Hampstead, NH, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, August 17, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Patricia (Hurlburt) Huntington of 45 years. Proud father of Rebecca Woods and her husband Greg, Kimberly Kelliher and her husband Patrick, and Benjamin Huntington and his wife Chelsea. Loving Papa to his grandchildren: Elaina, Lindsey, Matthew and Allison. Other surviving family members include his mother Florence (Peterson) Huntington age 94, his identical twin brother Robert and his wife Lois, his brother Richard and his wife Wendy, and his sister Susan Rothchild and her husband Nathan. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was sadly predeceased by his father Robert Ross Huntington.

Ross grew up in Norwich Connecticut and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1969. He was an avid runner and ran in high school, and at the University of Connecticut where he attended college. Ross worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for many years and finished his career working in Franklin, NH- a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He lived in Newton, NH for many years and directed the Newton Road Race that raised money for the Gale Library. He later moved to Hampstead, NH where he lived the remainder of his days.

He was so proud of his family. He loved writing and wrote many poems and short stories for and about his loved ones. He loved coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Ross had a wonderful skill of memorizing times for running and swimming races. As part of the community, he organized the Biddy Ball Program for The Greater Hampstead Civic Club and showed his knowledge of wild mushrooms on yearly trail walks in town.

He enjoyed many traveling adventures. Some of his favorites include a trip to Peru, the Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, and a trip with his brother to Nepal. Ross will be remembered for his love of extra toasty Cheez-its, the little ditties he would sing, his bridge playing, touching the mailbox after every run, and his hatred of mashed potatoes.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 1 to 4 PM at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main Street Plaistow, NH. A private burial will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ross' name to The Greater Hampstead Civic Club, PO Box 442 Hampstead, NH 03841.
