Ronald P. Smithell, 55 of Atkinson, died Saturday morning, March 24, 2012 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry.
Born, raised and educated in Malden, son of the late Dominic and Louise (Ruggerio) Smithell, he graduated from Malden High School with the Class of 1975. As a child and young man, he enjoyed spending his summers at the family vacation home at Big Island Pond which eventually became his permanent residence.
Employed as a warehouse technician at Home Care Specialist of Haverhill for the past several years, Mr. Smithell was previously employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for local contractors.
He attended Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish of Plaistow and was a former member of the Plaistow Fish and Game Club. He was also a twenty-eight year member of Local #4 of the Operating Engineers Union of Medway, MA.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed boating and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his wife of thirty'six years, Catherine A. (Woodman) Smithell, two sons, Ronald P. "Little Ron"' Smithell, Jr. and his wife April of Derry, and James M. "Jimmy"' Smithell and his fianc� Maria Tecce of Salem, a daughter, Carrie A. Baule and her husband Michael of Derry, two brothers, Robert Smithell and his wife Sue of Stoneham, MA, and Fred Smithell of Malden, four grandchildren, Ronnie, Taylor, Anthony and Mikey, his mother-in-law, Ann Woodman of Atkinson, his god-mother and aunt Phylis Pinciaro of Stoneham and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10a.m. in Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.
