Obituary

Haverhill: Ronald A. "Coach" Cormier, 72 of Haverhill and formerly of Plaistow, NH, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Lahey-Hitchcock Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Leominster, son of Jeannette (LeBlanc) Cormier and the late Norman Cormier, he moved to Haverhill as a child and attended Saint Joseph Grammar School and later graduated Haverhill High School with the Class of 1967. During his high school years, he played on both the varsity football and baseball teams. He also played basketball in the Archdiocese of Boston CYO League.

For forty-two years, Ron owned and operated Capitol Tours in Downtown Haverhill, with his longtime friend and business partner Jeff Xenakis, organizing and leading tours of Washington DC for countless numbers of students in the greater Haverhill area.

"Coach Cormier" devoted thirty-five years to coaching area youth football and baseball teams, including a twenty-four year career as the Freshman Football coach for Haverhill High School, a twenty-year commitment to the Timberlane Tornadoes Youth Football Team, and as a baseball coach for Saint Joseph Little League.

Ron was devoted to his children and grandchildren and also enjoyed bowling in the Saint Joseph Bowling League, traveling, and trips to Las Vegas and the Caribbean. A lifelong avid fan of the New York Yankees, he also enjoyed the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of twenty-years, Dianne M. (Deguio) Cormier, his mother, Jeannette (LeBlanc) Cormier of Clearwater, FL, two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrell and Erin Cormier of San Diego, CA, and Todd and Lindsay Cormier of San Diego, CA, a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Mark Hansen, of Haverhill, a step-son Giovanni DiGiacomo and his fiancé Amanda of Danvers, and a step-daughter Katelynn Schena of Austin, TX, a brother William Cormier and his wife Robin of Chester Springs, PA and a sister Lisa O'Brien of Tampa, FL, five grandchildren, Reese Cormier, Avery Cormier, Kyla Hansen , Harper Hansen and Sydney Cormier and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to Ron's Life Celebration to be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 27, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home and followed by burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hilldale Ave., Haverhill, MA.
