Haverhill: Roland Joseph Poirier, 88 of Haverhill, MA passed away April 2 , 2023 at High Pointe Hospice House.
He was born August 14 , 1934 in Haverhill, MA, one of eleven children of the late Alfred and Helen (Boiselle) Poirier. He was predeceased in 2018 by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Aline (Lachance) Poirier.
Roland attended Saint Joseph's School, Haverhill Trade School, and graduated from Haverhill High School. He also enjoyed continuing education certificate programs over the years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1951 to 1955. He was stationed aboard the USS Monogahela, the USS Kankakee and the USNS General A M Patch, and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp), and National Defense Service Medal.
Roland was an employee of Demers Plate Glass Co. of Haverhill for thirty-eight years, working in sales and for the last several years was employed as the General Manager. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Shamrock Liquors of Haverhill and Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home of Haverhill.
Roland was a long-time member of the Haverhill Rotary Club. He served twelve years as club Secretary and twenty-five years as a member of the Board of Directors. He was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1982. He was a member of the Manchester New Hampshire Genealogical Society and The Association Canado Americane. He was a parishioner of All Saints Parish of Haverhill and the former Saint Joseph's Parish.
Roland enjoyed ballroom dancing, line dancing, and square dancing. He was an avid walker and for many years walked five miles each day. Roland and Aline traveled extensively, both in the United States and abroad and spent many summer vacations at Bailey Island, Maine.
Roland leaves four sons, George Poirier and his wife, Robyn (Nowell), John Poirier and his wife, Jean (Rogers), Daniel Poirier and Carl Poirier and his wife, Ilona (Hancz); three grandsons, Jared and his wife, Patrice (Darby), Drew and Ethan Poirier, and two great-granddaughters, Logan and Brooke Poirier, two sisters Irene Iuele and her husband, Frank and Marie Ingalls and her husband, Donald and a brother Friar Dominic OFM (Donald Poirier) and many nieces and nephews.
Roland was predeceased by siblings Alfred Poirier and his wife Alice (Foisy), Eva Talarico and her husband Frank, Br. John Alexius S.M. (Henry), Norman Poirier, Lorraine Marino and her husband Corrado, Paul Poirier, and Jeannette Phinney.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Roland's Life Celebration to be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. His funeral will begin on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill. The family requests that memorial donations be made to High Pointe Hospice House, North Ave., Haverhill, MA.
