Rivard
September 20, 1935 – September 19, 2017
Plaistow: U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Robert R. Rivard (Ret.) 81, a resident of Plaistow for the past fifty years, died September 19, 2017, one day before his eighty second birthday, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.
Born in Berlin, NH, son of the late Albert and Emily (Montambault) Rivard, he attended local schools and was a member of the Notre Dame High School Class of 1954.
Mr. Rivard was employed for many years as the manager of the Custeau's Market in Plaistow before owning and operating a distributorship for Bachman's Snacks of New Hampshire. He most recently was employed in the advertising department of News of America.
Mr. Rivard served for thirty-five years in the New Hampshire National Guard until his retirement in 1988, and served as the senior non-commissioned officer for the 197 th Field Artillery in Berlin, NH.
A member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead, he was a 4 th Degree member and Past Grand Knight of the Saint Jude Council of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the New Hampshire National Guard Enlisted Association.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling to Florida and Hawaii, and most importantly, the time he spent with his family.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-seven years, Lois J. (Couture) Rivard, two daughters, Susan J. Peters and her husband, Glenn of Stoddard, NH, and Debbie A. Watkins of Atkinson, a brother, Donald A. Rivard of Berlin, four grandchildren, Jaron Peters, Brittany Helzer, Paige Watkins, and Blake-Mari Watkins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Rivard's Life Celebration to be held on Monday morning, September 25, 2017 from 8:30 until 10 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead. A reception will immediately follow the Mass in the church hall. Burial with Military Honors will take place at 2:30 pm in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH.
