Robert C. Hoppler, Jr. ("Hop"), age 82, of Plaistow, NH passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023. He lived a full life and died with the support of beloved family and kind caregivers. Despite a battle against cancer over many years, he lived to see his family grow through the
generations and experienced the joy of greeting two great-grandchildren into the world.
Born March 24, 1941, in Islip, NY, he was the son of Robert and Emily (Davidson) Hoppler and older brother to Henry ("Lou") Hoppler. Hop served in the US Air Force following his high school graduation. Upon being honorably discharged, he earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University and then a master's degree in electrical engineering and computer science, also from Northeastern University. He worked for 35 years at Bell Labs/ AT&T/ Lucent Technologies. Friends and family admired his work ethic and perseverance.
In September of 2022, he was predeceased by his wife Karen Ernst Hoppler, who will welcome him to heaven. He missed her deeply since her passing, and felt blessed to have had almost 59 years together. They loved traveling, and together traveled to all fifty states, as well as several other countries.
His hobbies included gardening and for many years he cultivated numerous flower gardens as well as a vegetable garden he shared with his neighbor and good friend. He was a dedicated sports fan and shared this passion with his son. He was also an avid reader, particularly historical fiction set in the WWII era, and he enjoyed sharing books and discussing the books and history with his daughter.
Hop was loved and will be missed by his surviving family including; his daughter Karla Colby and husband Scott of Poinciana, FL; his son Robert C. Hoppler, III and partner Chris Chance of Durham, NH; his grandchildren Angela, Kaitlyn, Jillian, Katie, Madison, Lauren, and Sasha; great-grandchildren Olivia and Owen; and his brother Henry Hoppler of Adamstown, MD.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 9 AM to 10:30 AM at the Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson
Depot Rd. Plaistow, NH. Burial will follow in the Plaistow Cemetery. For those who cannot attend but wish to pay respects or remember Hop in a special way, please consider support of one of his favorite charities: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Cancer Center. The gains of cancer research helped Hop live a longer and fuller life than would have otherwise been possible.
