Donovan
March 27, 1941 – January 30, 2019
Brentwood, NH: Robert S. Donovan, 77, formerly of Newton, died at Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Brentwood on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
Born and raised in Haverhill, the son of the late Walter T. and Agnes P. (Stanley) Donovan, he attended Haverhill Trade School and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era.
After serving his country, Robert served his community as the Police Chief in Newton, NH for ten years and then in the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department for thirty years, as well as being an instructor for the part time law enforcement cadets at the New Hampshire Police Academy. After his retirement, he served as Acting Police Chief in South Hampton, NH. Robert was a former member of the New Hampshire Police Chief's Association and a member of the American Legion Post 34 Carl Davis.
Robert enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, and spending time at his vacation homes in Alton Bay, NH and St. Augustine, FL. He was most passionate about restoring antique automobiles of which he owned many through the years. Above all else, Robert loved spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his special friend Pam Noon who held a loving place in his heart, son Robert Donovan Jr. and his wife Rosemarie of Newton, NH, daughters Mary Senter of Plaistow, NH, Robin Conti and her husband Anthony of Haverhill, MA, Nancy McLean of Danville, twelve grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife of forty-nine years Patricia (Montisanti) and his daughter Kelly Donovan.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Donovan's calling hours on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. Funeral service to follow at 7:30 PM in the Funeral Home concluding with Military Honors. Burial will take place in the spring time.
