Obituary

Hampstead, NH: Rita B. (Fournier) (Gagnon) Thompson, 93, a resident of Hampstead since 2007, and formerly of Haverhill and Methuen, MA and Mount Holly , VT, died peacefully at her home in Hampstead, on Tuesday evening, July 19, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Albert and Blanche (Lemoine) Fournier, she attended Sacred Hearts School in South Lawrence and was a member of the Lawrence High School Class of 1945. She later attended the Lawrence Vocational and Technical High School, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate.

Mrs. Thompson worked as an L.P.N. at the John T. Berry Rehabilitation Center in North Reading, MA, and at the Oddfellows Home in Ludlow VT. She was a member of the former Saint Joseph Parish in Haverhill, St. Mary's Church in Mt. Holly, VT, and presently attended Saint Anne's Church in Hampstead.

Mrs. Thompson, was an avid sports fan of all the New England and Boston teams, and also enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and meeting new friends. Most important to her in life were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandson, who all experienced her unconditional love.

Predeceased in 1969, by her husband Hubert C. Gagnon and her second husband Leon Thompson in 1993, she will be missed and lovingly remembered by, three daughters, Susan Gagnon of Hampstead, Patricia Gagnon, of Londonderry, and Kathleen Matthews and her husband Kenneth of Hudson, NH, three sons, Douglas Gagnon and his wife Diane of Raymond, James Gagnon of Auburn, NH and Joseph Gagnon and his wife Deanna of Dover, NH, a sister Claire Desmarais of Hampstead, thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers, Paul, J. Gerard, Normand, Henry, Robert, Joseph and Richard, and sisters, Helene, Lucille, and Louise.

A private family burial service will take place in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, MA. The date, place and time of her Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
