Haverhill: Rita (Belanger) (Cormier) Cote, 91, a resident of Haverhill since 1996 and formerly of Lawrence, died in Haverhill on June 9, 2020, one day before her ninety-second birthday.
Born, raised and educated in Lawrence, daughter of the late Emile and Leda (Matton) Belanger, she attended local schools and graduated Saint Anne's High School with the Class of 1946.
Employed first as a tax examiner for the Internal Revenue Service, she later was employed at Western Electric Co., A T & T Technologies and Lucent Technologies until her retirement and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
A former member of Sacred Hearts Parish of South Lawrence, Mrs. Cote was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill and the former Saint Joseph Parish. She was devoted to her husband and her large extended family and enjoyed family get-togethers and card games. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed dancing, walking, trips to the beach and attending concerts at the Hampton Shell and the Rogers Center for the Arts at Merrimack College.
She was predeceased in 1960 by her first husband, Philippe Cormier, her daughter Celeste (Cormier) Parsons in 1990 and her grandson Eric Longdin in 2003, and will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of the past twenty-four years, Ovila R. Cote, a daughter Charline (Cormier) Longdin of North Andover, a son Daniel Cormier and his wife Nancy of Weare, NH, a brother Raymond Belanger and his wife Cecile of Methuen, a brother-in-law, Raymond Cormier and his wife Velma, grandchildren, Ryan Longdin, Ralph Mazzotta, Katie (Cormier) Parsons and Philippe Cormier, three great-grandchildren Anna, Jeffrey and Nolan and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, June 12, 2020, at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill from 4 to 7 p.m. under the social distancing guidelines issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including the wearing of masks while in the funeral home. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in All Saint Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill, using the same guidelines. Burial will follow in Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Andover, MA. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, Sylvan St., Danvers, MA.
