Haverhill: Richard G. Killam, 82, of Haverhill, died Wednesday morning, July 16, 2014, at Penacook Place.
Born July 23, 1931, raised and educated in Haverhill, son of the late George and Nellie (Zmuda) Killam, he graduated from Haverhill High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1959 and was a recipient of The National Service Defense Medal, The Korean Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal, and The Good Conduct Medal. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he attended school and received training as a draftsman.
Mr. Killam was employed as an engineer and draftsman at Raytheon Corporation for several years until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and James Hirtle of Westminster, MD, three nephews, Norman Hirtle of Westminster, MD, Alexander Hirtle, of Riverdale Park, MD and Eric Hirtle of Sykesville, MD, great nephews Nathan, Elliot and Joshua Hirtle and great niece, Willow Jade Hammer-Hirtle, and several cousins.
Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 12 o'clock Noon until 2 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at 3p.m. in Brookside Cemetery. Boxford, MA.
