Sandown, NH - Richard S. Hanson, Sr., 87 died Friday, June 16, 2023, at the High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA, following a period of failing health.

Born March 31, 1936, in Beverly, MA; he was the son of the late Stephen H. Hanson and Eleanor (Holmes) Hanson Smith.

Richard spent his first years out of school in the US Marine Corps from 1956-1962. After an honorable discharge, Richard had initially worked as a meat cutter, then in various machine shops, and finally in the maintenance department of Hampstead Hospital for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling and loved to spend time tinkering in his garage.

He is survived by members of his family including his wife of 47 years Carole (Bridges) Hanson of Sandown, NH; his son R. Stephen Hanson Jr and wife Gayle of Portsmouth, NH; two grandchildren Richard III and Sophia; two sisters Diane Wright, and husband Bob of Lynn, MA; and Sandra Bozek of Middleton, MA; many nieces and nephews as well as several grand nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit Friday, June 23, 2023, from 4 PM to 5 PM with a memorial service at 5:15 PM at the Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH.
