Obituary

Haverhill: Richard A. Cook, Jr., 91 a native and lifelong resident of Haverhill, died peacefully at his home on Monday, September 13, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

The son of the late Richard A and Cecile (Vigeant) Cook, he attended local schools and was a member of the former Haverhill Trade School Class of 1949, where he was a member of the Varsity Football, Baseball and Basketball teams. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953 and later as a reservist until his honorable discharge in 1958.

Mr. Cook was a self-employed carpenter, builder and contractor for many years and later was employed in the building maintenance department of Foss Manufacturing in both the Ward Hill, MA and Hampton, NH facilities until his retirement.

He was a member of the All Saints Parish of Haverhill and the former Saint Michael's Parish and served for several years as a member of the Board of Trustees of Hillside Cemetery in Haverhill

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Mr. Cook maintained his lifelong interest in sports by volunteering as a baseball coach in the St Joseph Little League for twenty years as well as a football coach in the YMCA program and as a coach for his daughter's softball team, He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan of all Boston and New England sports teams, especially the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.

Always the "life of the party" Mr. Cook was known for his vibrant personality, and was someone who could light up a room. His most treasured times were the moments that he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of sixty-six years, Helen (Rabuska) Cook, two sons and daughter-in-law, Steven and Peggy Cook of Griswold, CT, and Kevin and Diane Cook of Staatsburg, NY, a daughter and son-in-law Diane and Bruce Richardson of Haverhill, a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Jean Cook of Haverhill, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Arthur Smith.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Cooks Life Celebration to be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway Haverhill. His funeral will begin with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in All Saints Church and followed by burial with military honors in Hillside Cemetery, Broadway, Haverhill.
