Kingston, NH – Richard A. Clarke, age 86 passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont, early Wednesday morning, January 18, 2017.
Born July 4, 1930 in Haverhill, MA he was one of eight children of the late James Clarke Sr. and Rose (Gamache) Clarke. Raised and resided in Haverhill for most of his life, Richard was a graduate of the both Haverhill High School class of 1948 as well as Haverhill Trade School class of 1948.
Following graduation Richard spent almost a year at Danvers Sanatorium due to having Rheumatic Fever. Once he recovered, he continued his education in Accounting and graduated from McIntosh Business College, Class of 1951.
A former resident of Atkinson and Danville, NH, he was a devoted employee at Lucent Technologies also known as Western Electric in North Andover MA until he retired in 1984, after twenty-seven years of service as an auditor.
Richard's love for carpentry was expressed in the home he built with the help of his father and brothers, all talented in the art of carpentry. He also served his community by volunteering in leadership roles to the Boy Scouts of America in Haverhill Ma. He continued serving his community in the roles of Treasurer with the Pentucket Kiwanis Club until 1975, and was recently a member of the Kingston Congregational Church in Kingston NH .He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, especially cribbage and 45's.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by, brothers Edward, Joseph, Leo, Thomas, James Jr. and sister Catherine.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce C. (Daly) Clarke, his four children James S Clarke and wife Kathy of Atkinson NH, Christine M. Clarke-Swift of Danville NH, David A. Clarke and wife Donna of Brentwood NH and Dianne J. Clarke of Newton NH. Also his sister Mary J Buswell and her husband Leonard, of Haverhill MA, 9 grand children and 9 great-grand children as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 2p.m. at The First Congregational Church of Kingston, 6 Church St., Kingston, NH. Burial will take place at a later date.
