Haverhill, MA - Raymond H. "Ray" Crossman, 82, of Bradford, MA, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on Saturday, January 4, 2020, after a period of declining health. Born in Merrimac, MA, son of the late Cecil and Nona (Smith) Crossman, he was raised and educated in Merrimac where he attended the local high school and was a member of the basketball team. Ray entered the U.S. Navy in 1956, and served honorably as a Radio Operator until 1964, and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.
An avid outdoorsman, Ray enjoyed camping, hiking, kayaking, and bicycling to name a few, but his first love was fishing. He spent many hours aboard his Grady White fishing off the shores of Plum Island and NH. He loved all New England sports teams and enjoyed antiquing in the Newburyport area. He also enjoyed repairing antique clocks and AM radios, and over the years he had his share of toys including snowmobiles, dirt bikes, boats, campers, and sports cars.
He worked for many years as an IT Specialist for Honeywell in Lawrence, MA, and Merrimack College, in North Andover, and upon retirement, worked inthe mail room at the IRS in Andover.
A devoted father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his three sons, Glenn Crossman, Gary Crossman and his wife Kerry of Newton, NH, and Greg Crossman, of Pardeeville, WI; brother Lloyd of St. Petersburg, FL; and grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Katti, Meagan, Michael, Kelli, Aaron and Brendon, in addition to his former wife Carol (St. Jean) Crossman.
The family would like to thank the Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury, Penacook Place in Haverhill, and Merrimack Valley Hospice for their outstanding care and support.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, from 3:00 PM – 5:45 PM, at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home and conclude with the rendering of Military Honors by the U.S. Navy.
