Plaistow NH: Ray C. Barton, 79, a resident of Plaistow since 1948, died Thursday evening, November 17, 2011 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.
Born in Haverhill, MA, son of the late Clarence and Greta (Briggs) Barton, he was raised in Haverhill and Plaistow and was a member of the Haverhill Trade School Class of 1948. A U.S Army Korean War veteran, he served overseas as a Sergeant and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
Mr. Barton owned and operated Ray's Repair, specializing in electrical and plumbing installation and repairs and was later employed as an industrial mechanic at Bailey Corporation. Most recently, Mr. Barton worked as a mechanic and driver for Pete's Sewer Service of Plaistow.
Mr. Barton had previously served as the plumbing inspector for the Town of Plaistow and several terms as President of the New Hampshire Association of Septage Haulers
A member of the Plaistow Fish and Game Club, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, maple sugar farming, and snowmobiling.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Mary J. (Verge) Barton, three daughters and sons-in-law, Pauli L. and Peter Johnson of Plaistow, Cathy and Ed Matton of Kingston, NH and Donna Estabrook and her companion John Higgins of Raymond, four grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Amy Matton, Randy Estabrook and David Estabrook and his wife Megan, and two great grandsons, Trenton Estabrook and Anthony Sciacca.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, November 26, 2011 from 3 to 4:45 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. His service will follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
