Obituary

Randall "Randy" Adams Hale, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Irma (Abels) Hale, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

He was born March 16, 1937, and raised in Chatham, NJ and was the son of the late Stuart and Margaret (Betterley) Hale.

The Hale family moved from Chatham to Atkinson, NH in 1956, and became very active in the First Church of Christ, Scientist Haverhill, MA. During his time there he held the roles of First Reader and Second Reader, and developed many lifelong friendships.  It was through connections from the church that he met his wife Irma Abels at a friend's house in Haverhill.  His strong faith in the Love and healing power of Christ was central to his life and followed him throughout his days.

Randy & Irma were married November 1966, and after a short time in "Timberlane Apartments" in Plaistow, bought a house on Maple Ave in Atkinson, where they raised their only son Alan.

Randall saw the world through a unique lens. While the simple and obvious would occasionally elude him, he could see patterns and solutions that would baffle most. It was often said of him that while most of us know what electricity DOES, he understood what electricity IS.  His understanding of electronics and mechanical systems led to a career as an integrated circuit test engineer at companies ranging from Transitron to Raytheon, to GTE, to Analog Devices.

Always drawn to the water, whether the ocean, rivers, or lakes, Randy took every opportunity to get on the water. He frequented Frye Island on Sebago Lake in Maine, and retired to a waterfront home on Lake Pawtuckaway in Nottingham NH, where they lived until 2018 when he and Irma returned to Atkinson. He loved to explore the remote parts of the lake in his kayak and on his SeaDoo, and never passed up a chance to waterski. He regularly got up on one ski until well into his late 70s.

Often referred to as "The Dog Whisperer," or "Dr. Doolittle" for his uncanny ability to befriend the scariest of dogs and the most aloof of cats, Randall was characterized by Love. He had not one trace of ego or malice anywhere in him, and radiated a soft spoken kindness to all who encountered him.

Besides his wife, Randy is survived by his son Alan Hale and his wife Julianna Hale of Atkinson, and their children Daniel and Rachel. He is also survived by his cousins Edward Betterley, Carole Buchanan, Barbara Hill, Janet Tysse and Elizabeth Betterley. He was predeceased by his sister Alice (Hale) Stevenson, and his cousin Margaret (Peggy) Cook.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday October 20, 2023, from 4pm -6pm at Brookside Chapel in Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow at 6:15 in the chapel at the funeral home. Interment will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation: https://t2t.org/
