Obituary

East Hampstead, NH: Ralph E. Johnson, 96, a resident of East Hampstead, all of his life, died February 2, 2017 at the Exeter Hospital.

Born in East Hampstead, son of the late John Johnson and Bertha (Ckaulbach) (Johnson) Sargent, he attended local schools. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during W.W.II and was a recipient of the World War Two Victory Medal.

Mr. Johnson was employed for over twenty four years as an electrician's helper at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church of Derry, where he sang in the church choir and was a seventy-three year member of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion, Plaistow. He was also a member of the voluntary Fire Department in Hampstead.  He enjoyed owning and maintaining Ford vehicles, traveling with family and dining out.

He was predeceased by his wife Gladys B. (Huntley) Johnson in 2007 and his son John Johnson in 1982. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph E. and Mary Johnson of Rochester, Raymond D. and Teresa Johnson of East Hampstead, and Merlin R.L. Johnson of East Hampstead, daughters and sons-in-law, Gladys E. and Richard Warren of North Carolina, Lynette E. Regan of Exeter and Verna Carol and Wayne Garvin of Epsom, a brother Richard Johnson of Haverhill, a sister Dottie Avery of New Hampshire, fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by sisters, Edith Labranch, Everlyn S., Elsie Howard and brothers, Harold Johnson and James Johnson.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. His funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place in the Spring in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
