Obituary

Peter Parrish, 92, recently of Atkinson, NH and formerly of Wood-Ridge, NJ passed away at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.  Peter was born in the neighborhood of Hays, on the east side of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  One of ten children, Peter always knew that family came first, and would always make time for family.  When his country called in World War II, Peter enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, fought in several campaigns, including the Battle of Iwo Jima, where he was awarded a Purple Heart for his injury in combat.  Peter was a machinist and a millwright and worked for many years at Curtiss-Wright Corporation where jet engines and the reactor vessels for the US Navy's nuclear submarines were built.  Peter had a strong work ethic and after his retirement from full-time work Peter continued to work part-time for Suburban Seat, a vehicle seat upholstery company, and later in his 80's as a crossing guard in New Jersey.

Peter and his wife Pearl were members of the Church of the Assumption of Our Blessed Lady in Wood - Ridge , NJ. Peter enjoyed reading historical non-fiction, fishing with his sons and grandson, and traveling with his wife to see the country he loved.  Well into his 80's Peter enjoyed taking his daily walks and swimming laps three times per week at the health club.  Peter also enjoyed telling humorous stories of growing up during the depression with his brothers and sisters, and how they would make the best of difficult times.

Peter is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pearl; his sons, David of Little Ferry, NJ; and Dennis and Peter's daughter-in-law, Elizabeth of Atkinson, NH; his grandson, Gregory of Newton, NH; Peter's sister, Josephine (Sissy) of Hazelwood (Pittsburgh) PA, his nephew and nieces; and great-nephews and great- nieces.
