Obituary

Peter D. Miller, 85, a 49 year resident of Plaistow, NH, died on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Exeter Hospital, Exeter, NH surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine A. (Callahan) Miller who passed away in June of 2022. He is survived by his younger siblings Paul Miller and Linda Wilson.

He was born in Melrose, MA on December 22, 1938 and was the son of the late Clifford H, Sr. and Lillian "Pearl" (Whitehouse) Miller. Peter was raised and educated in Lynnfield, MA.

Peter married his sweetheart Catherine "Cally" Callahan on September 20,1959. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and was called back for active duty in 1970.  He was known for his natural mechanical abilities, Pete worked on cars, boats, landscaping and home repair as hobbies. He was an avid automobile enthusiast and drag raced his "Green Monster" at New England Dragway in the 1960s. Pete also track raced his Merkur XR4TI at Lime Rock in the 1980s. Along his way, he befriended many fellow drivers and automotive enthusiasts, some of which went on to become well known professionals.

He retired from Malden Mills in Lawrence, MA shortly after a tremendous fire burned a great portion of the historic business known for its invention Polartec. Pete was employed as a millwright for over thirty years there. He earned his boating certificate and was licensed to operate any marine vessel up to 50' in length. Pete was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hiking, swimming, water skiing, camping, skiing cross country, travel, music, motocross and classic cars. He could play the guitar, sing and dance exceptionally well. Peter was a member of the NHRA, Merkur Club of America, Good Sam Club, Automotive Club of America, Gilford Yacht Club, Silver Sands Yacht Club, the Bluffs at Danforth and the NH Trail Riding Association.

Peter is survived by his daughter Annemarie Belcher and her husband Darrin of Exeter, NH, his daughter in heart, Sandra M. Swart (Callahan) and her husband Nicholas of Kelowna, Canada, his grandchildren Dannielle Gauthier and Ashleigh Belcher with grandchildren at heart, Lydia, Charles and Henry Swart.

His funeral service and interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org.
