Obituary

Summerfield, Florida: Peter M. McCarn, 78, of Summerfield, Florida and a former longtime resident of North Berwick, Maine, passed away on June 29, 2022, at Portsmouth Hospital.

Peter was born in Biddeford, Maine, son of the late Walter and Margaret (Lakeman) McCarn, and was raised in Wells and South Berwick, attending Berwick Academy and South Berwick High School. He was employed as a pipefitter at the Portsmouth Navy Yard until his retirement.

A member of the Bethel Christian Church of North Berwick, where he served as Assistant Pastor for twenty-five years, he spent time in his retirement as a missionary in Africa.  He enjoyed fly-fishing and his yearly fishing trips as well as trips to Cape Bretton, Nova Scotia, and the coast of Maine. An enthusiastic golfer, he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the love of the game and was an avid fan of any sport that he could watch on television in the comfort of his home.

Married to Jeannine McCarn until her death in 2002, Peter found love once again with Grace E. Ireland and shared a wonderful life full of adventures until his unexpected death. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by a daughter Jennifer. Additional family members that survive him include three sons and three daughters, Michael McCarn and his wife Pam, Timothy McCarn and his wife Paula, Kathleen DeVoll and Steve Garland, Laura Stark and her husband Jon, Kara Ireland-D'Ambrosio and her husband Christopher, and Brian Ireland; twelve grandchildren, Andrew, Evan, Collin, Rile, Makensie, Gavin, Brendan, Christian, Micah, Noah, Emma and Blake; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Connor, Gunnar, and Montgomery; a sister Bernice Tower, wife of the late Billy Tower, a brother and sister-in-law Fred and Nancy Clark, sisters-in-law, Jeanne Clark, wife of the late Wayne Clark Connie Moody, wife of the late Arthur Moody, Edwina Renaud and Margaret Davis, wife of the late Edgar Davis; brothers-in-law, Reggie Renaud, Donald Davis and his wife Mirta and Larry Lanier, wife of the late Janice Lanier and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

A private burial will be held for the family, and a Celebration of Peter's Life will be held on July 19, 2022 from 2 to 6 PM at the Spring Hill Lodge, South Berwick, Maine. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Peter's name be made to Linda Gove Ministries, P.O. Box 174, North Berwick, Maine 03906, a ministry whose special purpose is helping those in Kenya, Africa.
