Paul Andrew Tilden, age 98, passed away peacefully at the New Hampshire Veterans Home on Saturday, February 12, 2022.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on December 21, 1923 to the late John Gould Jr. and Eloise (Hopkins) Tilden and is preceded in death by his older brother, Allen Foster Tilden.

After graduating from Haverhill High School in 1941, Paul answered the call of his country by joining the Army-Air Force. Sergeant Tilden served in the European theater during WWII as a bombsight technician on B-25 aircraft and was awarded several commendations.

Following his discharge from the Army-Air Force, he attended radio school and was employed by Western Electric for 35 years.

In his spare time, Paul served his community as both a HAM and CB radio operator, as well as a rescue scuba diver for New Hampshire Search and Rescue.  He also served as a church deacon for many years.  His community service continued into his eighties, as he delivered meals on wheels. Paul's hobbies included snow skiing, scuba diving, bowling, and camping. He enjoyed traveling around the country and abroad with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy (Snow) Tilden; his children, Paula Tilden-Carnes, Peter Tilden, Pamela Tilden-Wilcox, and the late Patricia Tilden-Boudoin, Paul Bertholdt, Rella Bertholdt-Bartlett, and William Bertholdt; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at Willow Grove Cemetery, Newton, NH on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11:00am under the direction of Brookside Funeral Home, Plaistow, N.H.
