Obituary

Hampstead, NH - Paul J. Sweeney Jr., 72 passed away peacefully in bed at his home in East Hampstead, after a heroic struggle with cancer.

Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on December 15, 1944 to the late Paul J. Sweeney and Ellen Joan (Herring) Sweeney, he attended Saint James Grammar School and graduated Saint James High School in 1962. He went on to attend Andover Institute of Business then joined the US Air Force in 1964. He served as a Data Processing Machine Operator in the 7th Combat Support Group, SAC, Carswell AFB in Texas. There Sgt. Paul J. Sweeney met and married Sgt. Maureen (Henderson) Sweeney on July 15, 1967 at Carswell Air Force Base Chapel, Ft. Worth, Texas.

After his military service he moved to E. Hampstead, NH and resided at 56 Brown Hill Rd for over 40 years, and worked for the US Postal Service. He later was employed at Consolidated Plastics.

A member of the Carl Davis Post 34 of the American Legion, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and friends, playing cards, and camping. Paul enjoyed alone time playing Soduko, Solitaire and watching Ellen on TV. Paul had a great sense of humor as was evident by offering his classic quote "You wonder why I drink" any time something went wrong or life threw him a curve ball and by showing off his "Society Sucks The Kid" tattoo. Known throughout his life by many names - Son, brother, husband, Paul, Sweeney, PJ, The Kid, along with a few that cannot be printed, he was most proud of being called Dad and Papa.

Paul remarried on May 30, 2008 to Chheng (Beang) Sweeney during a beautiful ceremony in Lowell.

He is survived by his wife Chheng (Beang)Sweeney, his former wife Maureen (Henderson) Sweeney, four children,  "One and Only" son Bryan Sweeney of E. Hampstead, three daughters, Doreen Sweeney of Salem NH, Janel (Sweeney) Scheick and her husband Barclay of E. Hampstead, Sarah Sweeney and her fiance Scott O'Brien of Salem NH, four step-sons, Chenda, Ratha, Thangleap and Thangmeas Khiev all of Cambodia and three daughters Chetra, Vicheka and Meta Khiev of Cambodia and daughter Sela Khiev and her husband Vanara of Lowell, MA, his oldest sister, Paula Dennis, of Haverhill, eight grandchildren, Joshua Sweeney, Richard Sweeney, Brett Hebb, Nicole Morrison, Teagan Scheick, Broden Scheick, Samantha O'Brien and Scott O'Brien,Jr., twin Step grandsons, Willie and William Khiev, and a great grand-daughter Adaline O'Brien. Paul also leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous extended family members.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Paul's Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday February 1, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A private family burial service with military honors will take place on Friday, February 3, in the State of New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
