Atkinson, NH: Paul R. Antkowiak, 84, a resident of Atkinson for fifty-seven years, died September 12, 2020 at Massachusetts General Hospital. A successful heart transplant patient in 2004, Mr. Antkowiak enjoyed thirteen years of improved health following his surgery, but has bravely battled several illnesses over the last three years.
Born, raised, and educated in Haverhill, MA, son of the late Stephen and Sophie (Sadowski) Antkowiak, he attended the Hannah Duston School and graduated from Haverhill High School. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point New York and Boston University. First employed at General Electric Co. he later enjoyed a thirty-five year career at Raytheon Co., retiring as an Engineering Manager.
Known as a handy man and a "Mr. Fixit", Mr. Antkowiak could repair anything and enjoyed home repair projects and working on his cars. In his younger years, he volunteered as a coach for Atkinson Youth Baseball, Little League and Babe Ruth League, and also served as a coach for Atkinson Youth Basketball and Timberlane Youth Football. In his later years he was an avid fan of watching his grandsons play sports and was a proud grandfather attending his granddaughter's dance recitals. He enjoyed traveling across the country as well as trips to the beach and drives along the coast and was a longtime member of Holy Angels Parish of Plaistow.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Elaine M. (Tomaselli) Antkowiak, three sons, Paul G. Antkowiak and his fiancé Paula Holm of Salem, NH, John P. Antkowiak and his wife Ann of Granby, CT, and Eric D. Antkowiak and his wife Bonnie of Sandown, NH, a daughter-in-law Susan Antkowiak of Salem, NH, a brother Marc Antkowiak and his wife Joanne of Annapolis, MD, six grandchildren, Garnet Antkowiak, Paul R. Antkowiak II, Jack Antkowiak, Molly Antkowiak, Ryan Antkowiak and Emma Antkowiak, who knew their grandfather as "Dziadek". He is also survived by sisters-in-law Delores Antkowiak, Cynthia Pascucci and her husband Ronald and Linda Campolini and her husband Dino and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Priscilla Aro and her husband Charles, and brothers, Gerry Antkowiak and Edward Antkowiak and his wife Lorna.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH , following the State of New Hampshire guidelines for social distancing and the wearing of masks. His funeral following the same guidelines, will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow, and followed by burial in Atkinson Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Atkinson Elder Services Transportation Fund, 21 Academy Ave, Atkinson, NH .
