Haverhill: Paul H. Lawson, 79 a resident of Haverhill for most of his life, died peacefully at his home on November 10, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, son of the late Herbert and Myrtle (Oakes) Lawson, he lived in Groveland as a child, before moving to the Bradford section of Haverhill. He attended Saint James Grammar School and was a member of the Haverhill Trade School Class of 1961, and later attended Northern Essex Community College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class from 1961 to 1965, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, and a plank-owner of the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.

A Licensed Master Electrician, Paul was a member of Local 103 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, employed at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, until his retirement in 2005.

A member of Saint John the Baptist Parish of Haverhill, Paul served as a Eucharistic Minister at several local nursing homes and was a former volunteer for Merrimack Valley Hospice. For many years, he was a trainer for The Haverhill Boxing Club, and began his participation in boxing circles as a young man at the Haverhill YMCA and Haverhill Trade School and was known locally by his nickname "Knuckles".

Paul was a devoted " Friend of Bill W" and a classic car enthusiast as a member of the Rutland Area Vehicle Enthusiasts (RAVE). A man with a well-known sense of humor and an infectious smile, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, enjoying vacations in Lincoln NH, and cruises with his family, as well as visiting with friends at A A conventions in Vermont. He also enjoyed traveling cross country by car and airplane, and attending several Navy reunions. Locally he enjoyed cycling around the area and doting on his grandchildren and his feline friend "Bailey Boy".

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving and supportive wife of fifty-four years, Marie (Ouellette) Lawson, two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann-Marie and Leo Boucher of Stratham, NH and Paula L. and Chad Cook of Haverhill; four grandchildren, Savanah (Conrad) Arambasich and her husband Stefan, Caleb R. Cook, Cailey M. Cook and LeoJohn Boucher,III; a sister Mary Lou Armosino of Jacksonville, OR, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1994 by his sister Carole (Lawson) Cavallo and his cousin, Reverend Fr. Harold F. Lawson.

Relatives and friends are invited to Paul's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Church, Lincoln Avenue, Haverhill. Burial will Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Navy  will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill, MA.
