Obituary

Plaistow, NH: Paul R. "Bampy" Poley, 84, a resident of Plaistow for the past forty-six years, died February 10, 2017 at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.

Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, son of the late Kenneth and Florida (Goudreault) Poley, he attended Haverhill Public Schools and Haverhill High School.

A retired Air Force Technical Sergeant, Mr. Poley was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He served in the U.S.Navy aboard the USS Ingraham from 1950 until 1953 and was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal, The UN Service Medal, The China Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Poley served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 until 1972, serving at several air force bases primarily as an Air Traffic Control Technician and received the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Longevity Medal and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Poley began a twenty two year career with the B & M Railroad before retiring in 1994.

He was a Life member of the National American Legion and also a member of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion where he was in charge of the post color guard. A loyal sports fan of all Boston and New England teams, he enjoyed karaoke, Sunday dinners with his family, traveling across the United State and Europe, and attending his Navy reunions.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-three years, Eleanor (Blackwood) Poley, daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Paul Lorenzetti of East Hampstead, grand-daughters Ashley Whitmore-Ziakowski, Cara Lorenzetti, and great-grand-daughters, Mariah, Keira and Anaya. He was predeceased by his son Richard Poley.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A graveside service with Military honors will take place in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northeast Veterans's Outreach Center, 10 Reed St., Haverhill, MA .
